Since 1992, the Sawtelle Learning Center has been offering specialized education and behavioral support for children on the autism spectrum. Our school provides individualized programs based on Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), a research-based, best-practice approach for educating children with autism.
Sawtelle Learning Center is a New Jersey State Board of Education-approved private, non-profit school that integrates academic instruction with behavior and life skills development to prepare students for life beyond graduation.
Our comprehensive programs and services include:
- Highly Individualized Programs: Tailored educational plans based on each student’s unique needs and strengths.
- Comprehensive Curriculum: Includes communication and socialization, language-based instruction tied to NJ Common Core Standards, and development of Life Skills, Career Readiness, and Recreation Skills.
- Technology Integration: iPads, Smart Boards, and ChromeBooks are used to enhance learning and engagement.
- Community-Based Instruction: For upper-level students, we offer volunteer and work experiences in the community to promote real-life skills.
- Extended School Year: To ensure continuous learning and development.
Sawtelle Learning Center emphasizes the holistic development of each student, providing opportunities for socialization, communication, and the development of practical life skills. The program also includes parent support services, such as training, home visits, and advocacy, ensuring that families are engaged and supported every step of the way.
Our collaborative multi-disciplinary team includes Supervisors, Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs), Speech Therapists, and Occupational Therapists work together to support each student’s progress.
