Children get a little “TLC” from
donors – To kick off
the 10th anniversary of the opening
of the first YCS Therapeutic
Learning Center (TLC), long time
supporters from St. Luke’s Church in
Montclair were invited back to
celebrate by reading to the
preschoolers. Tom Cochran, Rosanne
Morey and Janet Chisolm were treated
to a performance by all the children
before they headed off into
classrooms to read to small groups.
Over the years, supporters from St.
Luke’s Church have contributed
critical funding to keep the program
afloat and additional resources for
in-need families whose children
attend the TLC.

HAPI
volunteers turn a rainy day into an
afternoon of fun and games
Hoop-A-Paluza (HAPI) volunteers were
hoping to put the finishing touches
on a newly donated basketball court
and jungle gym at YCS Holley by
painting a mural in the courtyard.
When the weather didn’t cooperate,
more than a dozen volunteers and
their family members played all
sorts of games and then provided
dinner for all the children. It was
an unexpected treat that the
children immensely enjoyed,
according to Alex Seidler, site
administrator.

URGENT REQUEST
We need your help to send
Governor Corzine and members of the Legislature emails requesting an annualized
cost-of-providing-care increase of 3.6% to be included in the FY 2009 budget for
YCS and other community providers. This modest increase
will help YCS meet the escalating costs of food, gas
and home energy necessary to care for hundreds of children in YCS shelters,
therapeutic residences, IRTS units, and aging-in facilities.
This e mail appeal has been organized by the Cost of Providing Care Coalition.
Their goal is to flood the email in-boxes of Governor Corzine and members of the
Legislature from now until June 2.
