The BASE – School-Based Youth Services at Eastside High School

Your One-Stop Support Center for Success 

The BASE is a safe, supportive, and empowering space for students at Eastside High School in Paterson, NJ. Designed as a comprehensive school-based youth services program, The BASE provides confidential, free, and voluntary support services to help students thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.  Whether they need counseling, career guidance, life skills training, or simply a place to feel heard, The BASE is there for them.   

What The BASE Offers 

As part of the School-Based Youth Services (SBYS) Program, The BASE provides a wide range of services to help students navigate high school and beyond: 

  • Individual, Group & Family Counseling – Support for emotional, behavioral, and family-related challenges. 
  • Health Education – Information on mental, physical, and emotional well-being. 
  • Conflict Resolution in The Peace Room – A space for students and families to resolve conflicts peacefully. 
  • Teen Parenting Support – Guidance, education, and resources for young parents. 
  • Academic Tutoring & College Prep – HSPT/SAT assistance, college application help, and career planning. 
  • Employment & Career Coaching – Job search assistance, interview prep, and career readiness. 
  • Juvenile Delinquency Prevention – Programs designed to help at-risk youth make positive choices. 
  • Recreational & Social Activities – Cultural trips, leadership training, and mentorship opportunities. 
  • Community Service Opportunities – Give back through food bank volunteering, health fairs, and city beautification projects. 
  • Human Trafficking Prevention Workshops – Awareness and support for students at risk. 
  • Summer Program for Incoming Freshmen – A head start on high school success.

Parent Linking Program (PLP)  

Support for Teen Parents 

Teen parents face many challenges, but they don’t have to go through them alone. The PLP is there to support them every step of the way. 

The YCS Parent Linking Program (PLP) provides comprehensive support for pregnant and parenting teens at Eastside High School. PLP helps young parents continue their education while building healthy, nurturing relationships with their children. 

 PLP Offers: 

  • Prenatal & Parenting Education – Learn essential parenting skills. 
  • Infant & Child Development Screening – Ensuring your child’s healthy growth. 
  • Counseling & Support Groups – Individual and family counseling tailored for young parents. 
  • Educational Services & College Planning – Continue your education and explore future opportunities. 
  • Work Readiness Training – Job skills and career preparation. 
  • Childcare Support & Subsidy Assistance – Help with applications and access to off-site childcare at Lewis Chatman Academy. 

Prevention of Juvenile Delinquency (PJD) Program 

Hope Starts Here 

The Prevention of Juvenile Delinquency (PJD) Program at Eastside High School provides early intervention and support for students at risk of entering the juvenile justice system. Through counseling, skill-building, and community engagement, PJD helps students get back on track.   

PJD Services Include: 

  • Counseling & Anger Management – Individual, group, and family support. 
  • Developing Positive Coping Skills – Learn strategies for handling stress and making good choices. 
  • Anti-Bullying & Drug/Alcohol Prevention – Awareness and intervention programs. 
  • Gang Prevention & Conflict Resolution – Guidance to help students avoid negative influences. 
  • Case Management & Truancy Prevention – Support to stay in school and succeed. 
  • Volunteer & Community Engagement – Opportunities to give back and take pride in the community. 
  • Collaboration with Local Juvenile Justice Programs – Working with the Paterson Police Department and Station House Adjustment Program.
