For over 100 years, YCS has supported children and families with complex needs across New Jersey. Two of the most meaningful ways we do this are through our Specialized Foster Care Program and Special Education Schools for children with developmental disabilities including autism and/or behavioral health challenges.
Open Your Heart. Open Your Home. Change a Life.

Every day, children wait for a safe place to belong. They don’t need perfect parents, just patient, compassionate adults willing to provide love, consistency, and a healing home. Through our Specialized Treatment Home Program, foster families care for children ages 5–22 with special needs. YCS provides training, and 24/7 support so you never walk this path alone. Your care can be the start of safety, support, and hope for a child.

Specialized Education for Extraordinary Students

Some children need more support than a traditional classroom can provide. That’s why YCS offers two NJ-approved special education schools:
George Washington School (Grades K–8, ages 5–15) in Hackensack: For students with behavioral and emotional challenges, blending academics with therapeutic support. And, Sawtelle Learning Center (Ages 5–21) in Montclair: for students on the autism spectrum, using Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) to build academic, social, and life skills.
Both schools are designed to help students grow academically, socially, and emotionally with consistent care and encouragement.
Together, we can build happier, healthier, more hopeful lives for children across northern Jersey. Start by learning more:
