For over 30 years, YCS George Washington School has provided specialized education for students with behavioral and emotional challenges. As a New Jersey Department of Education-approved private school for classified students, we combine rigorous academics with emotional and behavioral support, fostering a nurturing environment where every child can thrive.

We believe that a student’s learning environment should be a supportive and inclusive school community where students with behavioral challenges are empowered to recognize their strengths, build effective coping skills, and grow academically, socially, and emotionally. Through strong partnerships with families and home school districts, we prepare each student for a successful return to their local schools and for long-term success in life. Our vision is for every student to feel valued, capable, and equipped to thrive in any setting.
Our Mission
At George Washington School, we provide small group instruction to meet the needs of their individualized educational programs (IEPs). The program is designed to help each student reach their highest level of achievement. We foster emotional awareness, behavioral development, and social competence to prepare students for a successful future. Our program aligns with the New Jersey State Learning Standards and focuses on a multi-sensory, active learning environment that meets the diverse needs of our students.
Our comprehensive programs and services include:
- Multidisciplinary Integration: Social Emotional Learning, Occupational and Speech Therapy, and ABA services.
- Enriched Programs: Robust Art, Physical Education, and Music offerings.
- Technology-Infused Curriculum: ChromeBooks, Laptops, iPads, and Active-Boards in each classroom.
- Full-Time Support: School Nurse, clinical social work team, and family advocacy services.
- Extended School Year: A summer program to maintain learning and development.
We prioritize small class sizes with a low staff-to-student ratio to ensure individualized attention and build confidence. Our highly trained staff provides crisis intervention, de-escalation, and behavioral support, ensuring a safe, supportive learning environment.
We are always working to innovate to engage our students, which leads to initiatives like our Zen Dens for self-regulation on every floor of the school, and our school wide positive reinforcement plan, which helps students earn points and shop at our school store every Friday!
